A Science-Backed & Holistic Alternative to Dairy Milk

Nut and seed milks are becoming a preferred alternative to dairy due to both scientific research and traditional wisdom. Here's why:

  • πŸ₯› 1. Lactose Intolerance is Common: Over 65% of adults worldwide have some form of lactose intolerance, making it difficult to digest cow’s milk — leading to bloating, acne, mucus, and fatigue.
  • πŸ”₯ 2. Dairy Can Be Inflammatory: Animal milk may promote inflammation in sensitive individuals due to hormones, casein protein, and added antibiotics.
  • πŸ’‘ 3. Nut Milks Are Easy to Digest: Almond, cashew, coconut, and seed milks are alkaline-forming, light on digestion, and rich in good fats and minerals.
  • 🧬 4. They’re Nutrient-Rich: Nut milks provide magnesium, calcium, vitamin E, healthy fats, and plant protein — excellent for hormone balance, skin health, and bone strength.
  • 🌱 5. Clean, Ethical, and Customizable: Homemade nut milks are free of preservatives, sweeteners, and chemicals. Plus, they're suitable for vegan and plant-based lifestyles.
  • 🧘‍♀️ 6. Aligned with Holistic Healing: In Ayurveda and Naturopathy, soaked nuts are easier to digest, build ojas (vitality), and support calm and clarity when taken at night.

🌰 NUT MILK (Almond / Cashew / Walnut / Seeds)

πŸ›’ Ingredients:

  • ½ cup (10–12) nuts or seeds of your choice
  • 150 ml water

✨ Method 1: Dry Nuts/Seeds

  1. Grind nuts/seeds into fine powder.
  2. Add water & blend again for 1 minute.
  3. Sieve (optional) – Nut milk is ready!

πŸ’§ Method 2: Soaked Nuts/Seeds

πŸ•’ Soaking Time:
  • 🌱 Seeds – 2 hrs
  • πŸ₯œ Cashew/Walnut – 3 to 4 hrs
  • 🌰 Almonds – 7 to 8 hrs
πŸ”ͺ Preparation:
  1. Discard soaking water.
  2. Blend nuts/seeds with 150 ml water in 2–3 batches.
  3. Sieve if needed (especially almonds).
✅ Tips:
  • Soaking makes blending easier
  • Make 500 ml batches – small amounts don’t grind well
  • Sieve almond milk only
  • With high-speed blenders (like NutriBullet), sieving may not be needed
  • Ideal post-meal drink (except with fruits)
  • Great in curries, gravies, soups – use one nut at a time
  • ❌ Avoid adding sweetener before storing – it may ferment

πŸ₯₯ COCONUT MILK

πŸ›’ Ingredients:

  • 1 coconut (remove outer shell)
  • 2–3 cups warm water

🧺 You’ll need:

  • Muslin cloth or nut milk bag

πŸ₯£ Method:

  1. Cut coconut into pieces (no need to remove brown skin).
  2. Blend with 1 cup warm water.
  3. Strain through muslin – this is your 1st thick milk.
  4. Repeat the process 2 more times to get 2nd & 3rd batch (thinner).
  5. Use separately or mix all for thinner milk.

✅ Tip:

Use fresh for best taste. If stored, coconut milk may coagulate — just re-blend before use.
